A lot of songwriters and composers who are affiliated with BMI as songwriters/composers and publishers have heard the news. Last month in September 2023, BMI switched to a for-profit model in order to sell the business. In October, Music Business Worldwide reported that BMI will be keeping more of the revenue (increasing its rate from 10% to 15%) and reducing the amount it pays its songwriters/composers and publishers. 

This all seems like bad news BUT, I have good news for you. You can leave BMI for another PRO following the same steps I use for my clients, and you don't have to pay an Entertainment Lawyer like me $250 an hour to do it.
